burn drawings
Burning paper with matches has been part of my studio practice since the late 1990s. Sparklers, the kind used by children on the 4th of July, are a more recent method of leaving a mark. I refer to the outcomes as drawings, viewing the burn as no different than charcoal. The act of branding, one chance to get it right is tedious but striking. The burn drawing iconography spans vaginal forms, flags, text, maps, ovaries and Buddhas silhouettes...
